One of my favorite novels is "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
C.S. Lewis tells the story of Lucy and her siblings, who navigate the magical world of Narnia and find purpose in the process.
A good story is so much more than entertainment. A good story has within the building blocks to encourage and inspire real life in the most creative ways.
Back to my girl, Lucy. For those unfamiliar with this fictional work of art, Lewis weaves a fantastical story that parallels the Bible. Aslan represents Jesus, the White Witch represents Satan, Turkish Delight represents sin and temptation, and the stone table symbolizes the Cross. Interwoven through these parallels is a story of decision. Each character has to decide whether they will partner with Aslan and the purpose laid out before them or run home. For Lucy, she has to decide if she will partner with Aslan through faith. "I think - I don't know - but I think I could be brave enough," she says to Father Christmas when he gives her a healing elixir to use when someone is hurt.
In life, we, too, have moments where we must decide. Will we step forward in courage or shrink back in fear? Perhaps a story such as this can catalyze our own story.
Just as Lucy inspired me, my prayer for those who read Maddie's story in the Revealed Book Series is that they, too, will say, “I think I could be brave enough.”
In Revealed Truth, Maddie, like Lucy, finds faith as she decides not to allow fear to control her.
In Revealed Mercy, Maddie decides who she will trust when darkness pervades.
In Revealed Fire, she will have to put everything on the table and decide this day whom she will serve.
Will she be brave enough?
And so, in preparation for this journey, I ask myself these questions:
What character arcs are needed for Maddie to grow and meet the goals I have set for her?
What real-life conflict will create resistance to/for her transformation?
What will she learn in the process?
How can her story serve to encourage and inspire the reader?
And this, my friend, is only the beginning. Would you like to hear more? Check out today’s Week in Writing here.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Has Maddie encouraged you?
Do you think she will be brave enough to face the darkness to come?
Let's chat!
